Choose from one of the following features of a glaciated upland and explain in detail how it was formed:- ribbon lake
hanging valley
arete (4 marks)

Answer:
An arete is formed when two corries form back-to-back. An arete is the narrow ridge between the two corries.

A ribbon lake is formed when glaciers were able to erode parts of the valley more than others. This might have been because the ice was thicker and more powerfull or because the rock underneath was softer than the rest. The glacier makes a hollow which, after glaciation becomes a lake in the shape of the valley it is within. Ribbon lakes get their name because they are long and quite narrow.

For an area of upland glaciation you have studied, select two land uses from the list below, and explain how they are in conflict with each other:-
Forestry
Farming
Military
Industry
Water storage and HEP
Tourism (4 marks)

Answer: conflicts between tourists and farming - people do not obey the country code, and so that will annoy farmers because tourists will leave gates open then the animals could wander onto roads and cause accidents or be killed. Walkers/tourists might leave litter which would look unsightly and might harm animals if they try to eat it. If lots of walkers walk through a certain field on the same place, it kills the vegetaton and creates a foot path; this is called Footpath Erosion.

Referring to a land use conflict in a glaciated upland area, describe in detail measures which can be taken to deal with the conflict (4 marks)

**Tourists should be provided with information about the Green Country Code and be educated about the problems and the solutions. Bins should be installed to prevent the litter problem. Styles should be installed so that would eliminate the problem about gates being left open and animals escaping. Everyone concerened in the above question should be educated and given the facts. They should learn to compromise and get along. And be considerate.**** **__
